Basia Smolnicki
Born in NZ to Polish parents.
This 1967 documentary tells the story of 734 BasiaSmolnicki is a Wellington based printmaker artist specialising in tfine art printsand
sandblastetched designs onglass for homesand interiors
Basia combines the simplicity of Polish folk art with New Zealand flora and fauna to create narratives that use graphic shapes in high contrast colour or black and white imagery.
Her stories are rich in metaphor and meaning while exploring identity and connection to the land and culture we live in.
Basiastudied printmaking at the Wellington Polytechnic School of Design, Camberwell College of Arts in London and completed o postgraduate diploma of Fine Arts at Wellington Massey University New Zealand.
Currently Basia works from her home based studio in Newtown shared with partner architect Paul Kerr-Hislop
Works by Basia Smolnicki are represented by Solander Gallery in Wellington and Paper-Works in Napier.
Basia's unique etched designs on glass are custom designed by commission from her Newtown home studio
shared with architect partner Paul Kerr-Hislop.
Designs may be cut by hand and etched by the sandblasting process or digitally created and applied as vinyl cut film.
