Some of Wellington's most talented artists are opening their doors to the public along one of the city’s largest arts trails on the Miramar Peninsula. From Seatoun to Strathmore; Miramar to Shelly Bay, the Miramar Peninsula Arts Trail only 12 minutes’ drive from the central city, has artists who have established studios springing up from the creative industries on the peninsula.

While artists are at work and the arts trail is available all year round, the year’s highlight is the Artists in Action weekend on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th March 2016. For $10 a ticket, arts aficionados, families and anyone who wishes for a creative weekend can see all artists at work in their studios, ask questions of the artists, and both purchase and commission local art work.

Visiting guest artists featured in this years upcoming 2016 trail include former WOW supreme winner Paula Coultard, photographer Victor Huang, the senior animator at Weta Digital, and Gino Acevedo, Weta’s visual creature effects art director.

Artist Jane Brimblecombe creates amazing finely detailed feature mirrors which have been purchased by some very famous actors, including a cast member of Lord of the Rings.

Other artists include Michael Browne, whose work is on display in Te Papa as well as in private collections internationally. Bruce Luxford, Lynne Sandri, Juliet Best and Jane Blackmore ( both of the Blackmore and Best Art Gallery). Nicola Dench from the Clay Penguin.

A full list of artists and the very handy map are all on the MPAT website, and as well the MPAT Facebook page is a real treasure trove of constantly updating information about all the artists.

Visit 10 or more studios, get your ticket stamped and go into the draw to win one of 22 beautiful artworks currently on display at the Shelly Bay Chocolate Fish Cafe.

Your ticket is valid for the whole weekend so you can really take this trail at your leisure should you wish.
