I happened to be teaching printmaking at the Learning Connection last Thursday and we witnessed the Solar Eclipse though only seen partially from Wellington New Zealand. We were very lucky to have optimum conditions, the sun was shining and a corona could be viewed around the sun. We didn't look at the sun directly but viewed the eclipse through a pin hole camera using two sheets of cardboard! But the most interesting and natural phenomenon occurred when we noticed the sun shining through the leaves of trees and projecting the image of the sun in multiples onto the ground below.
In the photo above we have placed a sheet of paper on the ground and you can see the partial eclipse of the sun projected through the leaves of the tree.
